The International Construction Transformation Conference 2023 (ICTC 2023) kicked off at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) with an informative Day 1 that brought together industry leaders, experts, and innovators locally and from around the world.

The ICTC 2023, in conjunction with International Construction Week 2023 (ICW 2023), began with an inspiring keynote address by Dato’ Sr Mohd Zaid Zakaria, Chief Executive of CIDB Malaysia, who highlighted the critical role of sustainability framework and the ethical impacts towards the construction landscape. The National Construction Policy 2030 (NCP 2030) outlines sustainability construction practices and emphasises sustainable construction rating tools like MyCREST and Sustainable INFRASTAR.

Several insightful talks focused on Bursa Malaysia’s ESG journey were delivered by Ms Wong Hui Yin, Senior Vice President of Index and Sustainable Business Bursa Intelligence, on Social Impact Assessment (SIA) in project development by Tpr Herlina Ab Aziz, President of Malaysian Association of Social Impact Assessment and the efforts to achieve zero-carbon building in construction processes, spoken by Mitch Gelber, CEO of Malaysia Green Building Council.

The following discussions stressed the need for sustainable practices, digital transformation, and collaborative approaches to meet the evolving challenges faced by the construction industry.

The next session featured representatives from the finance sectors, shedding light on how it contributes closely towards sustainable construction whilst also allowing participants to learn more regarding sustainable accounting and finance framework.

One of the day’s highlights was the iconic ESG projects, in which the speakers showcased their innovative construction projects in Malaysia and globally. Attendees also had the chance to network, exchange ideas, and establish potential collaborations, creating a vibrant atmosphere conducive to the conference’s overarching theme of ESG in construction.

Experts delved into case studies and success stories, providing insights into implementing cutting-edge and green technologies to enhance efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
