Envisioning the Future of Construction at ICW and BuildXpo 2024

The International Construction Week (ICW) and BuildXpo 2024, held at MITEC, Kuala Lumpur, on October 22, has kicked off with a strong vision for the future of the construction industry. This year’s theme, Envisioning the Future of Construction, highlights how emerging technologies, sustainability practices, and post-pandemic innovations are reshaping the sector.

In his welcoming remarks, CIDB Chairman YB Ir Haji Yusof bin Haji Abd. Wahab emphasised the transformative journey the industry is undergoing. He praised the unwavering commitment of Malaysia’s Minister of Works, whose presence underlined the government’s dedication to advancing construction. ICW & BuildXpo, now in its 24th edition, continues to serve as a platform for addressing industry challenges and promoting growth through innovation.

This year’s central feature is the International Sourcing Programme, organised in partnership with MATRADE. He said: “This year, we welcome buyers from Thailand, Vietnam, Timor Leste, China, Australia and Qatar. In addition, buyers from Egypt, Italy, Poland and Mexico joined the buying mission virtually.” This initiative strengthens global trade links, allowing businesses to showcase their latest products and services to a broader market.

BuildXpo 2024 offers a comprehensive showcase of technologies and innovations, including Industrialised Building Systems (IBS), smart building solutions, and automation technologies. He said, “The exhibition will cover nearly 10,000 square meters of space, accommodating 500 booths, and we expect to attract over 15,000 trade visitors.” The exhibition created invaluable networking opportunities and set the stage for future collaborations.

With events like the Future Cities Summit and the Facilities Management Seminar, ICW 2024 offered a deep dive into industry trends, sustainability, and the legal frameworks shaping project management.

This year, the focus on talent and technology underscores CIDB’s commitment to empowering youth to lead the industry forward, ensuring a construction sector that is sustainable, inclusive, and future-ready.
