The Malaysian Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), through its subsidiary, CIDB Holdings Sdn Bhd (CIDBH), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Smart Paints (M) Sdn Bhd and the Malaysian Bumiputera Contractors Association (PKBM) in the development of a TVET training programme in construction. Through this collaboration, the Malaysia Construction Academy (ABM) trainees will receive training in painting techniques and machine operation from Smart Paints. ABM trainees will also be guided to become entrepreneurs and a panel of painters for Smart Paints.
This partnership is a significant step towards enhancing skills and productivity in the Malaysian construction industry through structured training initiatives and technical support. The MoU establishes several areas of collaboration:
- Smart Paints and CIDB Holdings – cooperation to enhance productivity and quality in skills training, especially in painting technology. Through this partnership, Smart Paints will provide ABM painting machines and their products, train ABM trainees in painting techniques and machine operation, and guide them to become entrepreneurs and Smart Paints painting panel.
- Smart Paints and PKBM – to create a business network through a vendor programme and become business and marketing agents with Smart Paints. In addition, it provides opportunities for contractors to become a contractor panel for Smart Paints projects.
- CIDB Holdings and PKBM – to cooperate in identifying and implementing initiatives and sharing expertise and technology to improve the quality of skills training and encourage participation from PKBM members in related programmes.
This cooperation was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by CIDB Holdings, a subsidiary of CIDB Malaysia, with Smart Paints (M) Sdn Bhd and the Malaysian Bumiputera Contractors Association (PKBM). The MoU was signed by Dato Sr Mohd Zaid Zakaria, Chairman of CIDB Holdings, Datuk Dr Azman Bin Yusoff, President of PKBM, and Mr Goh Chye Hin, Managing Director of Smart Paints (M) Sdn. Bhd.
The MoU signing ceremony was witnessed by the Deputy Minister of Works, Datuk Seri Haji Ahmad Bin Haji Maslan. Also present at the event was the Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Works, Datuk Seri Haji Hasnol Zam Zam Bin Haji Ahmad.
“The Ministry of Works (KKR) is committed to this plan by empowering Construction TVET. KKR, through CIDB Malaysia, produces competent, skilled workers at the CIDB Training Center, namely the Malaysia Construction Academy (ABM) and CIDB Technologies. More than 420,000 have been successfully trained and recognised as skilled workers,” said Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, Deputy Minister of Works, in his opening speech.

During the event, the Deputy Minister officially launched the Smart Paints campaign, “Smart Malaysia—My Country, My Brand,” to support locally produced products using environmentally friendly technology. This initiative aligns with the commitment to adherence to Environmental, Sustainability, and Governance (ESG) principles.
