BuildXpo 2024, hosted as part of the International Construction Week (ICW), became a hotspot for transformative technologies in the construction industry. This year’s expo will spotlight advanced solutions that address critical industry needs, from productivity and safety to sustainability.
Key innovations include Industrialised Building Systems (IBS), which aim to streamline construction processes through prefabrication and modularisation, minimising waste and reducing on-site labour costs. Smart building systems were also highlighted, showcasing integrated technology that allows structures to be monitored and managed digitally, enhancing energy efficiency and security. For example, smart building solutions can connect HVAC systems, lighting, and security into a central platform, optimising real-time building operations.
Automation is another focal area, with AI-driven robotics and machine learning enhancing project management and on-site operations. These technologies assist with quality control, inventory management, and even autonomous machinery operation, ensuring higher precision and speed. This year’s event included live demonstrations of robotics, allowing visitors to see firsthand how robotics can handle complex construction tasks that traditionally require extensive human labour.
In partnership with Gamuda Berhad, BuildXpo featured an Innovation Hub to support emerging technologies and start-ups, giving young entrepreneurs and innovators a platform to showcase ideas that may shape the future of construction.Â
Here, attendees explored applications in AI, the Internet of Things (IoT), and sustainable materials under one roof. This setup promotes collaboration and underscores the expo’s commitment to environmental responsibility, with sustainable construction materials and renewable energy solutions receiving special attention.
