During the inauguration of the International Construction Week 2023 and BuildXpo 2023 in Kuala Lumpur on November 15, YB Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, the Minister of Works of Malaysia, unveiled two ground-breaking initiatives set to reshape the landscape of the nation’s construction sector.
Construction Skills Qualification Framework (CSQF)
Minister Nanta Linggi expressed his delight in announcing the establishment of the Construction Skills Qualification Framework (CSQF) by CIDB Malaysia. This framework signifies a significant milestone in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), offering a structured approach to skills development and training within Malaysia’s construction industry.
“The impact of CSQF will be transformative,” noted Nanta. “We are not just setting standards; we are shaping the future of construction expertise in Malaysia. This framework serves as a beacon of opportunity, guiding aspiring individuals toward acquiring the necessary skills and qualifications that the industry demands.
“It signifies our commitment to excellence, ensuring that those entering the construction sector are equipped with the right knowledge and capabilities to excel in their roles.”
The establishment of CSQF also positions Malaysia as a hub of skilled professionals in the global construction arena. He emphasised that this achievement aligns directly with the aspirations of Malaysia Madani, fostering talent, promoting innovation, and driving sustainable growth.
ISO/IEC 17024:2012 Certification
As part of the CSQF journey, CIDB Malaysia will receive the ISO/IEC 17024:2012 Certification from the Department of Standards Malaysia (DSM). This international recognition in the assessment and accreditation of construction personnel competency will be granted for three highly demanded construction trades in the Oil & Gas industry: Welding, Non-destructive Testing (NDT), and Blasting and Painting.
“With the ISO/IEC certification, all Construction Skills Competency Certification issued by CIDB Malaysia for these competency areas will be recognised internationally,” Nanta said.
This recognition ensures that skills competency training in these areas, provided by CIDB’s training centres, namely Akademi Binaan Malaysia (ABM) and CIDB Tech, meets international standards.
