In the wake of global steel industry challenges, CRT Manufacturing Sdn Bhd, a Southeast Asian pioneer in non-metallic construction materials, introduces STARBAR™ – a fibreglass innovation aiming to reshape the construction landscape.

In the midst of reports about restructuring in major steel companies globally, the industry faces unprecedented challenges, with job cuts and potential sales making headlines. Even in certain regions, job losses in the steel sector are causing significant concerns. As the industry grapples with uncertainties, the environmental impact of traditional steel production remains a key concern.

Huang Mei Si, Co-Founder and Deputy Managing Director of CRT Manufacturing, addressed these concerns at the International Construction Transformation Conference (ICTC) 2023 in Kuala Lumpur.

Emphasising the need for a greener alternative to steel, Huang Mei Si unveiled STARBAR™, a fiberglass-based construction material designed to reduce the carbon footprint associated with traditional steel significantly.

She said: “The global steel industry, a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, is facing a paradigm shift. The environmental implications of steel production, accounting for 7% of all global greenhouse gas emissions, further intensify the urgency for sustainable alternatives.”

STARBAR™: A Sustainable Solution

CRT Manufacturing’s STARBAR™, a patented fiberglass construction material, emerges as a game-changer. Huang Mei Si showcased its potential to revolutionise the construction sector, citing a 70% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to traditional steel. The material, ranging from 4mm to 30mm in diameter, offers versatility in construction applications while boasting a lower carbon footprint.

The innovation extends beyond emissions reduction. STARBAR™ also addresses the critical issue of corrosion, a common woe with steel in various environments. Huang Mei Si highlighted the material’s successful fire rating tests, surpassing benchmarks and outperforming traditional steel bars.

In the next part, we will delve into the additional advantages of CRT Manufacturing’s innovative STARBAR™ over steel.
