Construction Research Institute of Malaysia (CREAM) and Technology Development Sector (Sektor Pembangunan Teknologi – SPT), CIDB expressed its appreciation to the Ministry of Works Malaysia, Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak, Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Sarawak (MPHLG), Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Sarawak (MEITD), Perbadanan PR1MA Malaysia (Sarawak), CIDB IBS, Akademi Binaan Sarawak (ABM), and host CIDB Sarawak for their cooperation in discussing the problems and issues faced in the implementation of IBS at government projects in the State of Sarawak.
The engagement session began with a proliferation session of input from key Government sector representatives on 20 December 2023. The main challenges raised in this discussion are the issue of logistics operations to transport IBS building components to remote locations, limited supplier availability, and the effectiveness of training programs to ensure a stable supply of skilled workers. The engagement session was extended with three site visits to review and witness the implementation of IBS. The visit was led by Pn. Zainora Zainal, Senior General Manager, SPT, CIDB. The tour covers both urban and rural areas.
CREAM would also like to express its appreciation to SEDES Enterprise Sdn. Bhd. for the opportunity to visit the construction site of Rumah Spektra Permata (RSP) under the Skim Pembesaran Kampung (SPK) located in Santubong, using the precast system. Thank you also to S.P.C. Construction Sdn. Bhd. for a visit to their construction site for residential development in Samarahan on 21 Dec 2023 using an innovation system supplied by Peninsular Malaysia. Another site visit to the construction site of Sekolah Kebangsaan Tambay in Kota Samarahan hosted by MAJESTIKA Sdn. Bhd. showcases the use of precast and blockwork systems. During this visit, many inputs of issues and challenges were shared for each project being implemented and have been through before.
CIDB under CREAM has completed the development of the Laboratory for IBS testing at MKRM Sarawak. Pn. Zainora Zainal visited to see the development of MKRM, the existing facilities, and the planning to be completed. CREAM would also like to congratulate MKRM Sarawak on recently receiving recognition and accreditation by the Department of Standards Malaysia under MS ISO/IEC 17025:2017.
