The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) has been at the forefront of shaping Malaysia’s construction workforce, particularly through its focus on skills development and training. The introduction of the Construction Skills Qualification Framework (CSQF) is one of CIDB’s cornerstone initiatives to elevate the quality of workers in the sector and ensure they are equipped with the necessary skills to meet industry demands.
CSQF is designed to provide a structured and comprehensive approach to skills development, aligning with ISO/IEC 17024:2012 certification standards. This ensures that Malaysian construction workers are globally recognised for their expertise, further positioning the country as a hub for skilled professionals. By focusing on high-impact training and enhancing teaching and learning materials, CIDB addresses the skills gap and ensures local workers are prepared to compete globally.
Additionally, CIDB Technologies has worked closely with TVET institutions to ensure their programmes align with industry needs. The board’s efforts have led to the certification of various trades, from crane operation and plumbing to gas pipe fitting and welding. In 2024 alone, CIDB awarded 150 graduates the Construction Skills Competency Certificate (SKKP), marking a significant step towards building a more competent workforce.
CIDB’s role extends beyond training. The board actively engages with construction firms to encourage the adoption of modern construction technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI) and automation, which are seen as key drivers of productivity and efficiency. The board also promotes sustainable building practices to ensure Malaysia’s construction sector remains competitive and environmentally conscious.
With the Malaysia Madani TVET Vision, CIDB aims to develop human capital that is skilled, knowledgeable, and capable of transforming the country’s construction landscape. The government’s continued support and CIDB’s initiatives ensure that Malaysia’s construction industry remains a critical pillar of the nation’s economic growth.
