BUILDING COLLAPSE INCIDENT IN MALACCA: IMMEDIATE STOP WORK ORDER

The Melaka CIDB enforcement team went to the location where the landslide occurred at 10 a.m. on Oct 12 to investigate. CIDB’s preliminary investigation found that the main contractor of the construction project had a valid registration under CIDB, but the three foreign construction workers involved in the incident, including the deceased, did not have a certificate of registration of construction personnel or worker accreditation from CIDB.

According to CIDB Melaka director Mohd Rizal Norman, the department seeks detailed information on the case to assist in the investigation. As the collapse caused death, the case will be investigated under Section 34D, Act 520, which is death caused by a breach of duty by the contractor. If convicted, the contractor can be fined not more than RM500,000 or imprisoned for a term not exceeding two years or both.

In the case, which occurred on October 11, 2024, at 6.15 pm, the main structure of the building collapsed while under construction. It caused the death of a Bangladeshi worker, while two Pakistani workers were seriously injured.
