Immediate Commencement for Sultan Ismail Petra Airport's Phase Two Expansion

The Kelantan State Development Action Council, led by Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, announced on May 2 that the second phase of construction at the Sultan Ismail Petra Airport (LTSIP) is set to begin without delay. This decision follows the temporary closure and clearing of the old LTSIP terminal, making way for this pivotal expansion project.

The LTSIP development, which comes with a significant investment of RM440 million, is essential for the region’s growth. “The expansion and upgrade of this facility is a long-awaited move, reflecting our commitment to enhancing the state’s infrastructure,” Nik Nazmi told Bernama during the Madani NRES adopted village ceremony in Kampung Aril, Melor.

Although the new terminal started operations on May 1, it has yet to be fully completed. However, it boasts modern facilities, including over 20 flight counters, advanced multi-level parking, dedicated taxi lanes, a fire and rescue station, an expanded apron area, and a cashless system for passenger transactions.

Kamaruzzaman Razali, Senior General Manager at Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhad (MAHB), reported that the new terminal is expected to handle between 30 to 35 flights daily, accommodating an increased traffic of approximately 4,000 to 4,500 passengers daily.

This strategic development aims to bolster Kelantan’s connectivity and enhance its economic and social landscape by providing a state-of-the-art gateway for national and international visitors.
