The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) to enhance competency development in the construction industry in Sarawak.
The MoU between CIDB and SEDC emphasises several matters, including knowledge sharing, training and competency development programmes, contractor development programmes, construction technology and advisory services for construction best practices. CIDB’s subsidiary, Akademi Binaan Malaysia (ABM) Wilayah Sarawak, will undertake all these initiatives with Sara Resort Management Sendirian Berhad, a SEDC subsidiary.Â
The MoU between CIDB and SEDC was signed by the Chief Executive, Dato’ Sr Mohd Zaid Zakaria, representing CIDB and the General Manager, SEDC, Datu Haji Abdul Hadi bin Datuk Haji Abdul Kadir. Meanwhile, the MoU between ABM Wilayah Sarawak and Sara Resort Management Sdn. Bhd. was signed by the Chief Executive Officer, ABM Wilayah Sarawak, Encik Abdul Rahman Bin Ahmad and Sara Resort Management Sdn. Bhd. represented by the Managing Director, Puan Hartinah Annuar.
“The phenomenon of globalisation increases the demand for employees and professionals proficient in technical fundamentals and can access, share and apply the latest knowledge. In this context, this MOU is not only a step forward for CIDB Malaysia and SEDC, but also to bring Malaysian construction workers on par with the international market,” said Dato’ Sr Mohd Zaid Zakaria, Chief Executive of CIDB.
“SEDC welcomes cooperation with CIDB to ensure that the state of Sarawak is ahead in construction competency in line with the rapid development of the construction industry on this earth”, said SEDC General Manager Datu Haji Abdul Hadi bin Datuk Haji Abdul Kadir.
The growth of the construction industry in Sarawak will bring great benefits to the local people. It is not just about building construction but also involves the “construction” of talent, skills and professionalism. Strategic bilateral cooperation opens the door to more job opportunities, community development, and improving people’s living standards.
